Familiar opening
XO is a new solution for cans that allows you to reseal it again and again after it’s been opened. While new, it will seem familiar to you. We call it the evolution of the SOT, because the XO resealable can opens like a SOT can, yet it includes everything the SOT was missing: resealability.
The conventional SOT (Stay On Tab) system is the most used and most familiar partial opening system for beverage cans. It has served the consumer well for more than 35 years and was a great step in the right direction. Fact is, cans are lighter in weight, smaller in size and storage volume, faster cooling and are fully recyclable. But it's major flaw is: they are not resealable.
Optimizing the SOT was the challenge that XOLUTION, the company behind the XO can, took up. Here is everything you need to know about using the new XO Resealable Can:
Lift to vent
Opening the XO-equipped can is a one-handed operation in two quick and easy steps. You will intuitively find out how to proceed. First, you need to pull the tab. This familiar and easy action will serve three purposes: it will break the original Tamperproof Seal of the can (you will notice a slight resistance while pulling), vent the contents by opening the XO Flow Valve (you will hear the familiar sound of a can being opened for the first time), and finally unlock the XO Slider.
Slide to open
You will notice that the XO Pull Tab continues all the way over the area where you are used to see the actual opening of a can. This plastic piece is the XO Slider. To finally open your can after step one ("lift to vent"), place either your index finger or your thumb (again – just follow your intuition) on the round notch that we call the XO Push Button and push the XO Slider forward until you hear a gentle “click”. The mouthpiece is now open and the XO Slider is locked into the open position. It took a little longer than with the old, known SOT? Don’t worry – after finishing a six-pack, you won’t notice a difference anymore.
Tamper proof solution
It's not because your XO can is resealable that it should feel unsafe to drink from – after all, what tells you that someone has not opened it before it got in your hands? The solution is part of the XO system: What indicates that your drink is genuinely yours and untouched is the XO Tamperproof Seal. When you lift your XO Pull Tab, you will notice a slight resistance. That's because the Tamperproof Seal is attached to the Pull Tab, and this seal needs to break. That's the guarantee that you can feel safe about your beverage being untouched before you open it for the first time.
